Elaine Donnelly Is Desperate To Keep "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" So She Will Not Be Further Pushed Into Insignificance

Proponents of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" are getting desperate.  They realize that it is a matter of time before it is repealed.  And, those who have made thousands exploiting the issue will lose their cash cow.  No wonder, Elaine Donnelly, president of the ridiculous Center for Military Readiness, has fallen over the edge of reason on her attack of a new bill being introduced by Alcee Hastings. (D-FL)

Like it or not, Congress is going to reconsider "Don't Ask Don't Tell" (A policy the majority of Americans do not support.)  And, such consideration will require congressional hearings and testimony from gays who are serving in the military.  Hastings, has introduced the "Honest and Open Testimony Act" to allow gays in the military to testify before Congress without being dismissed from the military.  For some reason, Donnelly believes this will undermine the law.  Really:

"First of all the name is downright Orwellian. This bill would mandate a way to manipulate hearings on gays in the military that would be anything but 'honest and open,'" she argues.  "It's an attempt to repeal the 1993 law regarding homosexuals in the military incrementally. You create an exception for hearings for homosexuals in the military to come forward and declare themselves to be gay, and therefore not eligible to be in the service. If you say, 'Well, the military must retain them anyway,' you have pretty well repealed the actual law."

Orwellian?  How is this a manipulation of words for a different purpose.  Still, that is beside the point.  How does allowing a few service men and women testify without reprisal repeal the actual law?  I must not possess Donnelly's sense of twisted logic.  Also, we already have openly gay and lesbian individuals serving in the military.  We all know it, and generals turn a blind eye.   So, get over it.  And, yet, Donnelly continues to prove her idiocy:

Donnelly points out that Hastings is not even a member of the House Armed Services Committee, which means he has no knowledge of the issue that should be taken seriously.

Let's ignore the fact that Donnelly never served in the military.  Since when does one's committee assignments qualify them to discuss or have an opinion on an issue.  Do Congresspeople not consider all bills regardless of their committee assignments?  For what it is worth, Rep. Hastins does serve on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (so he cannot be entirely ignorant of military readiness).  Further, what special expertise of tthe military do you need have to decide whether to allow individuals to testify before Congress without recrimination.  This has got to be one of the most asinine comments I ever heard, and I have heard plenty.
