Frank Gaffney Calls For a War Against Sharia Law

Freud would have a field day with these neo-cons who love sabre rattling and talking tough. I am sure it is linked to their security over their own masculinity or the size of certain things in their lives. Either way, "Neo-Con Supreme" Frank Gaffney, has written a column where he claims that Obama's speech this evening should be nothing short than a full fledge war against Sharia law. Why? Because the ultimately goal of Sharia law is world domination and the subjugation and destruction of Western values and our way of life.
Look, I am not an expert in Sharia law, but I doubt that such is its realistic goal. Anyway, here is the fear mongering and idiocy from Gaffney:
We are at war today not with Islam or certainly with all Muslims. But Muslims who adhere to the brutally repressive and supremacist theo-political-legal program authoritative Islam calls Shariah are, in accordance with that program, at war with us. Shariah dictates the triumph of an Islamic theocracy and, to that end, the use where possible of violent jihad. Where violence is not practicable, more stealthy forms of jihad must be employed. . .
Thus, we have no choice but to resist the attempted imposition of Shariah, whether through violent or non-violent means. Under our administration, we will do so comprehensively, at home and abroad. We will use military power were necessary and the array of other techniques at our disposal to preserve our civilization in the face of a threat that knows no boundaries.
Let me be clear: In so doing, we will reach out at every opportunity to Muslims who wish no more to live under Shariah than do the rest of us. Such Muslims are our natural allies and we will make common cause with them against our mutual foe. . .
We call on all nations - Muslim and non-Muslim alike - who face, in due course, the prospect of being subjected to Shariah to join us in this effort. By so doing, we maximize the chances of preserving both the unique character of such nations and the opportunity for each to express that character in ways that reflect the traditions and values of their respective societies. This is a goal for which we have, frankly, no choice but to strive.
Gaffney's first mistake - many Muslims actually want to live under Sharia law. As a University of Maryland study from 2007 has show, a majority of people in Egypt, Morocco, Indonesia and Pakistan want to live under Sharia law. Is that not their choice? I have no problem with individuals living under the rules they want as long as people have an opportunity to leave and they do not invade their neighbors. Ideally, I would want these nations to follow Western values and concepts because I believe them to be the best for mankind. Still, I do not want us to go around exporting these values by force to people who are not prepared to embrace them. They need to come to this path on their own, just as our ancestors have. They may never, but as long as they keep to themselves, what more can we do.
Gaffney is calling for nothing less than an massive war based on ideology. Gaffney wants to impose Western values on other cultures, under the sword if need be. These people labor under the false delusion that if you invade their countries and give them American style constitutionalism, they will behave as Americans. I am sure if you let the people in many Muslim countries vote on the legal system they want, they will select Sharia law. Then what? Has Gaffney and his cohorts not learned from what they did in Palestine. Look at the development of Constitutionalism, democracy, civil liberties and civil rights in the Western World - it was not an easy process (and it continues). Heck, it has been a bumpy ride even in the United States (although the U.S. has had it the smoothest).
What is wrong with containing Islamic fundamentalism just as we did communism? Why must we go around invading everyone and imposing our values on nations that never embraced them in the first place? And, what about Americans who support Sharia law in the United States - should we imprison them? Kill them? What?
This sabre rattling is nothing more than Hot Air, with little thought, that allows Gaffney to feel more of a man, and more of an American than others. Those who protest the loudest and are the first to accuse others of weakness, are the most insecure. Under that rationale, Gaffney, and his buddy Dick Cheney are some of the most insecure, dangerous people in America.
